10) Anisur Khuda-Bakhsh
He is considered to be a famous Indian Zoologist for his contribution in homeopathy and research on animals. He is currently a professor of Zoology in University of Kalyani in West Bengal and is known for his published work on cause of liver toxicity in mice due to reduced arsenic content. He has performed many research on mice like treating arsenic induced diabetes using nanoparticles and is known for production of nano-insulin.
9) Veena Tandon
She is one of the renowned Indian Zoologists who have been awarded the highest civilian honour Padmashree in 2016 for her contribution towards life science. She is a parasitologist currently holding the position of senior scientist at Biotech Park, Lucknow and was a former professor of NEHU, Shillong.
8) Sunil Kumar Verma
He has many awards and recognitions to his credit and has attained the position of famous Indian Zoologists from a young age. He has contributed to life science through his extensive study in cancer and obtained his M.Phil from University of Oxford. He has also studied on wildlife conservation and is known to invent Universal Primer technology. Currently he is a principle scientist in CCMB, Hyderabad.
7) Ashok Captain
He is one of the famous zoologists and is mostly known for his extensive study on snakes and other Indian Reptiles. He studied Herpetology and concluded about their behavioural aspects, wrote papers and books on snakes making him one of the famous Indian Zoologist. Wood Snake is named after him and is called Xylophis Captaini scientifically.
6) Gabriel Chiramel
He is one of the oldest Indian Zoologist who has contributed to the life science field with his extensive research and is an Indian priest, educationist, social reformer and one of the most renowned Zoologist. He served as Principle in Christ College from 1956 to 1975 and also founded the Amala Institute of Medical Sciences along with establishment of Zoology Department of Sacred Heart college in Thevara. He was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2006 for his contribution.
5) Shamim Jairajpuri
He is one of the famous zoologist and has done extensive study and research in the field of nematology and received his doctoral degree from AMU for his work in taxonomy. He is a gold medal winner by Zoological Survey of India and was also awarded Lifetime Achievement in Nematode Research in 2016 by Nematological Society of India and in Parasitology by Indian Society of Parasitology. He held the position of Director in Zoological Survey of India from 1989 to 1991.
4) Kiran Mazumder Shaw
She is not only famous Indian Zoologist but an influential entrepreneur and is the chairman and MD of Biocon, Bangalore. She is also currently the chairperson of IIM Bangalore and was awarded the Othmer Gold Medal for her outstanding contribution. She is ranked as the 77th most powerful women in the world according to Forbes.
3) C.R Narayana Rao
He was one of the greatest Indian Zoologist and was known for his extensive study in the field of herpetology. He studied on Amphibians and the genus Raorchestes, was named after him. He is one of the founding editors of Indian Scientific Journal – Current Science. He organised the Zoology department in central College, Bangalore and headed it until retirement in 1937. He was one of the prominent Zoologist in Indian History.
2) Vishwa Gopal Jhingran
He was an renowned scientist and receipt of Padma Shri Award in 1977 for his contribution to life science and study about aquaculture. He is known for the invention of aquaplosion technique which is a composite fish culture. He obtained his doctoral degree from Stanford University in 1948 and served as director of Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute in Barackpore.
1) Lalji Singh
There is no introduction needs for the renowned Zoologist who has contributed to life science and in field of Biotechnology. He is known as Father of DNA fingerprinting for his work on this exclusive technique and received Padma Shri in 2004 for his immense contribution. He is also the founder of high tech research laboratory Centre for DNA fingerprinting and Diagnostics, served as 25th Vice chancellor of prestigious BHU & Chairman for Board of Governors for IIT(BHU) from August 2011 to August 2014 and as Director of CCMB from May 1998 to July 2009.
